A promotion is the company that puts on the card: it signs the fighters, makes the matches, runs the rules meeting and pays the purse. In most sports the league is a single body and the athletes move within it. Mixed martial arts never worked that way. It grew out of independent promoters spread across several continents, and a fighter's career is usually built across more than one of them.

Why the promotion matters to a record

Two fighters can carry the same record and have faced completely different opposition, because the promotion is what decided who they met. A global promotion draws from everywhere and matches hard. A regional circuit develops local prospects against opposition chosen to test them without ending them early. Neither approach is dishonest — they serve different purposes — but a record read without knowing where it was built tells you very little.

Rules travel less well than people assume. The Unified Rules of MMA are the common ground, and most of the sport now runs on them, but details differ from one promotion to the next: the shape of the cage or the ring, the number of rounds outside a headline bout, what is legal against a grounded opponent, how a fight is scored when it goes the distance. A fighter formed under one set of conventions does not always adapt to another on first contact.

How a fighter ends up on one of these pages

Fight Hub does not ask a fighter which promotion they belong to, because the answer keeps changing. Fighters sign elsewhere, compete on loan, return after years away. A fighter is therefore listed with the promotion of their most recent recorded bout, and that listing recalculates on its own as new results come in. It is how a catalogue of this size stays truthful about careers that move.

One consequence is worth stating plainly: these pages describe where fighters have competed, not who holds their contract. The two usually agree. When they do not, the results are the part we can verify.

Records shown are professional records across every promotion a fighter has competed in, not one organisation's tally.
