About this gym

MMA Lab is a mixed martial arts gym in Glendale, Arizona. It is narrow in two ways at once: its fighters occupy few weight classes, and every one of them shares the same nationality.

Two groups, not one

The occupied divisions do not sit next to each other. There is a clear group in the middle of the weight range and another well below it, with the classes between them empty.

That gap is worth noticing. Those divisions do not reward the same things — the lighter one asks for pace and continuous work, the heavier one for leverage and the ability to hold position against real mass. So this is not one gym specialising in one type of fighter. It is two groups under one roof, each with genuine depth in its own class and little use for the other as partners.

For the fighters in the middle group the arrangement is close to ideal: they have several people their own size, which is exactly what most gyms cannot supply outside their strongest division.

A gym without imported habits

Every fighter on this roster was born in the same country. Nearly every comparable gym carries at least a few fighters from elsewhere, usually many more.

A gym that has not imported fighters has not imported their habits either. It works out answers from the inside, and those answers tend to be consistent with each other rather than borrowed from several traditions at once. Whether that is an advantage depends entirely on the answers — but it is a genuinely different starting point, and it shows in the styles on the pages below.

The birthplaces do not repeat, so the roster is domestic without being local: put together from across the country rather than out of one city's scene.

What you will find below

Nearly all of this roster competes at the top level of the sport, with only a small remainder elsewhere. For a gym of this size that is a high proportion, and it means the standard of daily training is set by people competing there.

The pages below list every fighter in this catalogue whose most recent bout came out of this gym, with their weight class, nationality, record and how each of their last five fights ended.
