About this gym

Jackson-Wink MMA is a mixed martial arts gym in Albuquerque, New Mexico. What stands out on its roster is the heavyweights: it carries a real group of them, which is rare. Across the sport, the heaviest division is the thinnest — many gyms have one heavyweight, and many have none.

Why heavyweight partners are the hardest to find

Heavyweight is where training partners are scarcest and where their absence costs the most.

Size does not scale politely. Against a much larger opponent the distance closes faster, the clinch behaves differently, and a punch that would be absorbed at middleweight ends the round. None of that can be learned against someone smaller who has been asked to go heavy.

A heavyweight training alone spends his camp translating: he works with partners who move faster than his opponent will, then mentally discounts everything he learns. A gym with several heavyweights removes that step for all of them at once. It is a rarer advantage than it sounds.

The rest of the roster is spread thinly across the middle and lighter classes, which is the usual shape once a gym has committed space and partners to the heaviest end.

A roster built close to home

This is not a heavily international gym. The large majority of the fighters below were born in the United States, and the foreign element is small.

Albuquerque also recurs among the fighters' birthplaces, not only as the address of the gym. That is a small detail but it points the same way: this roster was built locally more than it was recruited from abroad, and gyms assembled that way tend to teach one method rather than absorb several.

What you will find below

A good share of the roster competes at the top level of the sport, and the rest are spread across a wider range of promotions than most gyms of this standing show. Women's divisions are represented.

The pages below list every fighter in this catalogue whose most recent bout came out of this gym, with their weight class, nationality, record and how each of their last five fights ended.
