About this gym

Brazilian TKO is a mixed martial arts gym in Curitiba, in the state of Paraná. Curitiba is one of the founding addresses of Brazilian MMA — the city where the aggressive, striking-led school of the sport was assembled while Rio was developing the grappling one.

What Curitiba means

Two Brazilian traditions grew up in parallel and they are still distinguishable. The Rio line runs through jiu-jitsu: control the position, work towards the submission, treat the ground as home. The Curitiba line runs through muay thai and vale tudo: close the distance, punish in the clinch, decide the fight standing.

A gym founded in Curitiba inherits the second by default. It does not mean the grappling is absent — no modern room can afford that — but it does mean the striking is the starting assumption rather than the addition, and the fighters who come out tend to move forward rather than manage distance.

An entirely domestic roster

Every fighter on this page is Brazilian. That is unusual even among Brazilian gyms, most of which pick up an Argentine or a Peruvian somewhere, and it says the room recruits locally rather than serving as a destination.

The consequence is coherence. Everyone here learned in the same system, against the same assumptions, which makes for fast progress and a shared technical language. The corresponding limit is exposure: a room that trains against itself has to go looking for the styles it does not contain, and the first meeting with a wrestling-first opponent tends to happen in a bout rather than in a session.

Where the roster sits

The occupied divisions reach into the upper half of the scale, which is not where Brazilian rosters usually concentrate — the country's depth has historically been in the lighter classes. A gym carrying fighters in the heavier bands is unusual enough to be worth flagging, and it changes the kind of preparation available in the room.

The promotions column runs from the largest organisation through to circuits outside the Americas.

The pages below list every fighter in this catalogue whose most recent bout came out of this gym, with their weight class, nationality, record and how each of their last five fights ended.
