The Global Fight League has announced its 1st event for December 18 in Buenos Aires, with the Buenos Aires Gauchos hosting the Miami Monsters. The team-based MMA league has never held a show: its 2 events of May 2025 were cancelled, and the October 17, 2026 launch in Las Vegas never took place. Nevada has since granted it a license for 2027.

Global Fight League: what was announced

Buenos Aires on December 18

GFL bills it as the 1st official event in league history. The league says rosters will be revealed on Monday. According to SB Nation, the card is set for the Club Atlético Lanús.

A team format

GFL is built as a league of city franchises, with teams facing each other rather than individual cards. The Buenos Aires Gauchos are the latest team announced, facing the Miami Monsters.

Who is on the rosters

Marlon Moraes (24-13-1), a former UFC title challenger, was recently named on the Miami Monsters roster. The other fighters for December 18 have not been announced.

A launch postponed again and again

May 2025

GFL, founded by Darren Owen, a former World Series of Fighting executive, had signed several former UFC champions in 2025, including Tyron Woodley, Chris Weidman, Luke Rockhold, Anthony Pettis and Holly Holm. Its 2 events of May 24 and 25, 2025 were cancelled.

October 2026

In June, GFL announced a 1st show on October 17, 2026 at Sam’s Town Live in Las Vegas, with 4 founding markets: New York, Los Angeles, Miami and London. The announcement later disappeared from its accounts, and the event did not happen, according to SB Nation.

The Nevada license

On October 21, GFL said it had received approval from the Nevada State Athletic Commission to host an event in Nevada in 2027. No date or venue has been announced for that card.

A new era in mixed martial arts officially begins.

What to watch

The rosters on Monday

The list of fighters expected on Monday will be the 1st concrete test of the Buenos Aires date. Until then, only the 2 teams and the city are known.

A listed company

GFL presents itself to investors as the 1st team-based MMA league, and calls the Buenos Aires show a proof of concept.
