UFC 331 weigh-in results: all 24 fighters on the scale, and Steveson moves up to the main card

The UFC 331 weigh-in results came in clean on Friday in Los Angeles: twenty-four fighters, twenty-four marks hit, no misses and no fines. Joshua Van (17-2) and Alexandre Pantoja (30-6) both came in at 125 pounds for the flyweight title rematch, and the card also moved, with Gable Steveson against Sean Sharaf promoted to the main card.

Key takeaways

UFC 331 weigh-in results, fight by fight

The title fight, on the number

Van and Pantoja both registered 125 pounds, the flyweight championship limit, which removes the only storyline that ever ruins a rematch before it starts. Van defends the belt he took from Pantoja in a first meeting that lasted twenty-six seconds.

Main card

Tsarukyan 156 against Ruffy 155 at lightweight. Pitbull 145.5 against Choi 146 at featherweight. Steveson 240 against Sharaf 241 at heavyweight. Menifield 205.5 against Baraniewski 206 at light heavyweight.

Prelims

Marlon Vera 136 against Charles Jourdain 135 at bantamweight. Tai Tuivasa 264.5 against Robelis Despaigne 263 at heavyweight. Michael Aswell Jr. 146 against Yoo Joo-sang 145.5, and Ryan Gandra against Osman Diaz, both 186. On the early card, Edmen Shahbazyan 185 against Brunno Ferreira 184.5, Casey O’Neill 125 against Eduarda Moura 125.5, Giga Chikadze 146 against Joanderson Brito 145.5.

What the numbers actually tell you

A clean scale is not the norm

Twelve bouts and not a single fighter over the limit is a better result than most cards manage, and it matters beyond the paperwork. A missed weight costs a percentage of the purse, changes the terms of the fight and occasionally removes a bout from the card hours before it happens. None of that applies here.

The card moved instead

The one change is structural rather than physical: Steveson against Sharaf has been promoted to the main card. For a heavyweight who is 4-0 and being built quickly, that is a meaningful piece of the night, and it comes on a card where the co-main event is openly framed as a title eliminator.

Tuivasa’s number

Tuivasa weighed 264.5 after what has been described as his first full camp at American Top Team, against Despaigne at 263. He arrives on a long losing run, which makes the scale one of the few things that has gone right for him lately.

It's a bad matchup for him. He doesn't even want to talk about me. When they ask, 'Who is the top contender?' He gives weird names but not me.

What is at stake on Saturday

A belt, and a queue behind it

Van defends against the man he took the title from, which is the cleanest possible test of whether twenty-six seconds meant anything. Behind them, Tsarukyan is treating Ruffy as the last obstacle before a shot at Justin Gaethje, and he has said so without hedging.

Careers on the prelims

The undercard carries the heavier personal stakes. Vera is trying to end the first four-fight losing run of his career against a Jourdain who has won three straight, and Tuivasa is fighting to stop a slide that has lasted years.
