Michael Page signs with Misfits after leaving the UFC and says 3 fights will pay more than his entire UFC contract

Michael Page signs with Misfits and has a new home. The 39-year-old Briton, who left the UFC when his contract expired in September, has signed a multi-year deal with Misfits, KSI’s promotion. The announcement was made on Saturday, October 10 in London. Misfits is best known for boxing but wants to grow in MMA and is counting on him to lead that project. Page says he is earning roughly 2 times what he made in the UFC.

Key takeaways

Michael Page signs with Misfits, what is in the deal

The announcement

KSI introduced Michael Page as a new signing at a Misfits card at the Copper Box Arena in London on Saturday, October 10. The deal covers several years and several fights, ESPN reports.

The terms

The contract is exclusive, but it leaves Page free to take part in grappling and wrestling competitions, Cageside Press notes. No debut date has been set.

Boxing first, MMA next

ESPN announces his boxing debut in the coming months. BJPenn presents him as the face of Misfits’ expansion into MMA, a discipline in which the promotion has staged few fights so far.

Why he left the UFC

The end of the contract

Page fought the last bout of his deal at UFC Paris on September 5 and beat Nursulton Ruziboev on points. The UFC did not extend him.

The record

He leaves with 5 wins and one loss in 2 and a half years, including 4 straight decision wins over Shara Magomedov, Jared Cannonier, Sam Patterson and Ruziboev. His overall record is 26-3.

The grievance

He called the UFC’s lack of an offer disrespectful, as we wrote in September. Jake Paul’s company, MVP, had also said it was interested.

In a three-fight deal, I'll make more than I have in my entire UFC contract.

What he says he gains

The money

On Ariel Helwani’s show, Page speaks of an absolutely crazy deal. He says he is making roughly 2 times what he made in the UFC, over a shorter period. Those figures are his own, no amount has been published.

The freedom

He also says he feels free: in the UFC he was not allowed to stage his entrances and exits the way he wanted. At Misfits, he is being asked to be himself.
