Cris Cyborg confirms: "Yes, I will fight MMA again", 6 weeks after her PFL farewell

Cris Cyborg is not done. The 41-year-old Brazilian confirmed to MMA Sucka that she will have another MMA fight, 6 weeks after beating Ketlen Vieira at PFL Tampa, a card the promotion had billed as her retirement fight. She gives no opponent, no date and no promotion. Her record now stands at 30 wins and 2 losses.

Key takeaways

Cris Cyborg is not stopping

What she said

Asked by MMA Sucka, Cris Cyborg answered plainly that she will fight in MMA again. She believes her performance against Ketlen Vieira proves she can still compete with the very best.

What is not announced

She names no opponent, no date and no promotion. No organization has made a signing official, Sherdog notes.

A word she already rejected

Before PFL Tampa, the promotion spoke of a retirement fight. Cyborg only said she was reaching the end of her contract and saw herself as a free agent afterwards, as we wrote in August.

Looking back at PFL Tampa

The result

On August 22 in Tampa, Cyborg beat Ketlen Vieira by unanimous decision after 5 rounds. That takes her record to 30 wins and 2 losses.

The weigh-in

The day before, Vieira came in at 152.2 pounds for a 145 limit, 7.2 pounds over. The featherweight title was no longer at stake and the fight went ahead at a catchweight.

Her read of the fight

Cyborg says she won 4 of the 5 rounds thanks to her footwork and fight IQ, and landed almost 2 times as many strikes as her opponent over 25 minutes.

Yes, I will fight MMA again. I think my performance against Ketlen Vieira proved I am still able to compete against the very best in the sport.

What comes next

A streak still alive

Cyborg has not lost in MMA since her defeat to Amanda Nunes in December 2018. She points out that she has been unbeaten for more than 7 years, boxing included.

Free agent

Her PFL contract has run out, MiddleEasy reports. She can therefore talk to any promotion, but nothing has been signed so far.
